Twilight Action Girl @ Barsonic Launch

Friday December 5th 2008

Friday nights in KL have been rather dull of late. For sure, KL has all kinds of entertainment, but it is rare that you come across a real storming night out. A night where you arrive at one location and stay there until the music stops. KL has such a bar hopping crowd, being of a laid back disposal this often annoys me. Yet this changed on December 5th. TAG are back. As is their passionate following. Unfortunately, that passion was tested on Friday as the opening was delayed while some finishing touches were made to Bar Sonic. But you would have hardly noticed once you were inside. Emotions were pent up, people had been waiting for this for weeks, what’s another hour lah?

We have all been awaiting the long anticipated re-opening of Zouk proper, and the good news is its pretty much there. Doing anything to a timetable in KL is a challenge, not least of all renovating a major music venue (you should try launching a website), and bar some small technical challenges the night was a roaring success. We’ve also been told that there is much still to do in Bar Sonic, but you can see from the basic design it will be an intimate space, focused around the prominent DJ box. All the better to watch the lads play to their crowd.

It was great to see that TAG crowd getting passionate. We love passion. We seek it around the world, and this night always has had it. We also love the TAG sound. It reminds us of London and all that it has to offer musically. From the latest electronica to the classics of the Cure, the Smiths and the Kaiser Chiefs.

The charm of TAG lies in the four distinctive DJ’s. First Up, Chasey Lane, got things going with his eclectic sound. Beware the Spandau Ballet. DJ Ribut, looking rather dapper in his dress jacket, delivered his range of sounds, from the grooves of Curtis Mayfield to the chiming arpeggios of The Smiths after which Bunga upped the ante and the bpm exploring avant garde electronica and thumping beats. Rounding of the night in style, Xu topped it all off with his infectious mix of scuzzy beats and hard hitting electro.

So welcome back TAG, KL needs you……
