KOKO Gig Watch
Xtreme Indie VI @ Raw Bar
Wednesday 3rd December 2008

These guys are trying to do something different, DJ's spinning out sets that truly encapsulate the energy of true indie music…sitting outside on the terrace (is it a terrace?) listening to the tracks like Tokyo Police Club 'Nature of the Experiment' and MGMT 'Electric Feel' tempted me inside from the great conversation…….caught the end of Edwin Raj’s set and he truly knows how to bang the tunes out. Next on the decks was Hazeryl (apparently first time on the decks!) not that you could tell as he seemed to endear himself to the feel of the crowd with belters like Kasabians 'L.S.F' and Radiohead's 'Idioteque', a couple of my all time favourites……at this point I was nearly tempted to join the few on the dance floor….but I kept it to my personal touch of appreciation with some pulsing head nods (in a funky kind of way in my opinion)….then for the second extreme indie running, that Welsh boy Johnny Mayho blasted out his usual anthem approach with tracks such as Blood Arm's 'Suspicious character' and Fratellis 'Baby Fratelli'. To mix it up a bit, Mayo incorporated a VJ take on things and gave us a few Radiohead videos (all very technical)….although not a huge crowd on the night, everyone was shaking their stuff at some point or other during another quality memory-provoking evening. Towards the end of the evening, we noticed a guy sitting on his own (not even drinking) just engaged in the music…..my mate went and had a chat - "who did you come with mate" was the question, and the answer summed it up nicely: "to enjoy the music man".
DJ line up:
Johnny Mayho (UK) (KOKO ASIA)
Common People (UK)
Aidil Rusli (COUPLE)
