We have always had a soft spot for Eels and their more than interesting front man E, A.K.A. Mark Oliver Everett. Anyone who changes their name due to having too many friends called Mark is OK by us. We know his songs resonate with such depth and longing, because we know he has suffered the loss of family members and retreated to the studio to make such classics as Susan's House and Novocaine For The Soul, and we also know Eels are just about to release a new album called Hombre Loco. But what at least one of us didn't know is what Mark Everett's dad did when he was alive. E must just wait for an ill informed German music hack to ask, and what did your father do? so he can answer "oh him, well this year is the 50th anniversary of Hugh Everett’s most important contribution to science - a controversial theory of quantum mechanics that predicts the existence of Parallel Universes, one of the most fantastic scientific predictions ever to have been conceived!, ha ha put that in your pipe and smoke it" and what's more there is a fantastic documentary where E embarks on a journey to find out more about the father he hardly knew.

ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES
Oh California, oh punk rock, oh how we struggle putting the two together... Well brace yourselves because here comes some punk rock royalty, super country covers group. Those that know, know this is a proper fun night out as members of NOFX, Foo Fighters, No Use For A Name and of course Swingin' Utters tear through a set of country tunes. We kid you not.

M83
Whoever said this was going to a diverse newsletter this week was bang on the money, M83 can be one or two people live and yet manage to go from an almost shoegazing lushness to what sounds like an orchestra of juggernauts being thrown down a lift shaft, but in a very good way. M83 has already made Bloc Party and Depeche Mode sound even more fab via the old remix, so come see the real raw deal, you will love it.
