So if the 60's was all about peace love and Pink Floyd, the 70's was definitely all about Punk Rock and Disco, the 80's was all about wearing too much make up and a Tartan rug over one shoulder and then fighting the Acid House wars, raving in green fields and buying trousers wider than a circus tent. Which brings us up to the 90's and that dreadful invention called Brit Pop, what the hell were the 00's all about? Could the evil Simon Cowell really be responsible for destroying the musical culture of a whole decade?

Maybe not. One genre that is doing just fine thank you has been provided by those hard working left of centre folky types. Let’s praise a higher deity and raise a glass of something that cost more than £5.99 a bottle to the amazing talents of, Devendra Banhart, Sufjan Stevens, Bright Eyes, The Akron / Family, Wilco, Bonnie Prince Billy, Calexico, Current 93, Julian Cope, Mark Lannegan and Eels, all of whom made the world of the X Factor seem a long way away in the naughtie 00's and that dear readers is a very good thing when you need to activate your ears for musical pleasure.

THE CLUB NME NYE BALL

Tickets are selling like the green frogs in the Little Baker on a Monday morning, fast. It's not rocket science trying to work out why either. We have the downright regal live blessing of Reverend and The Makers, who know exactly how to celebrate the end of another year at the coal face of culture. Plus the frankly amazing supporting live cast of Example and Ou Est Les Swimming Pool, now that's got to be better than queuing for a hot dog on the South Bank...

ETIENNE DE CRECY TO PLAY

We love this techno French fella and we more than chuffed to have him grace the stage and no doubt turn the sound system in side out and your head up side down. Bon.

Delphic Delphic
Delphic Delphic

Both Delphic and Ou Est Le Swimming Pool played to one of the most up for it Club NME crowds we have had all year, which band will cash in the popularity chips in 2010? Only time, tide and airplay will tell.
