Rap mogul Jay-Z is on course for his record 11th American number one album, overtaking the late legend Elvis Presley as the solo artist with the most number ones in the country.

The overall record however, is still held by The Beatles who have 19 number ones, mainly thanks to the time ‘Beatlemania’ gripped the nation over 40 years ago.

The rap stars new album entitled ‘Blueprint 3’ has shifted half a million copies in its first week in the US and looks set to overtake Elvis’ record of 10 number one albums set back in the 70’s.

The surge in record sales was no doubt helped by the 9/11 tribute gig he played at Madison Square Garden on the anniversary of the event. The night, billed as ‘Answer The Call’, featured a two hour long set from Brooklyn’s finest supported by acts like P.Diddy, Mary J Blige, & Pharell Williams.

Even cock-of-the-moment Kanye West made an appearance to cover vocal duties on ‘Run This Town’, Jay-Z’s number one hit from the recently released album.

The show, which featured a moment of silence to remember the lives of those lost in the attacks, donated all proceeds to funds that will help families who lost loved ones on 9/11.

Jay-Z stated: "Make some noise for everybody that lost their lives so we can live ours. We stand here tonight eight years later even stronger, even stronger." which drew cheers from the sold out crowd.

This weekend, we will find out if the man who started off by dope dealing and went on to run his own business empire, can be one of the select few to boast they are bigger than ‘The King’.
