After recently being given the Critics Choice Award at this year’s Brit Awards the name on everyone’s lips as the potential biggest newcomer of 2010 is folktronica singer songwriter Ellie Goulding.

Having already supported the likes of Little Boots and due to play alongside Passion Pit in their forthcoming UK tour, who she also provided the vocals for the Starsmith remix of ‘Sleepyhead’, the hype around 23 year old Ellie is peaking as she prepares to launch her debut album Lights in March.

Ellie was also named the top choice on the much coveted BBC Sound of 2010 list, which showcases the critics, broadcasters and music industry insiders top choices for rising stars and artists for the coming year. The BBC poll is widely seen as a good indicator for future fame and success considering previous winners such as The Bravery and Keane.

Accompanied only by her acoustic guitar she was introduced to the dance scene by a flat mate who helped her forge her unique style of folktronica that has seen her become the most anticipated emerging artist this year.

The combination of her folk roots and passion for dance music has seen her create a style of songwriting that has been described as “delicate and personal while also being cutting-edge and club-friendly.”

She discovered her sound while practicing guitar at home and hearing the works of Frankmusik being blasted through her flatmates door, prompting Ellie to contact the electropop producer to work on her tracks. After sending a message through MySpace, which she never expected a reply, she found herself in the studio with Frankmusik within days to help perfect and distinguish her fresh new sound which is expected to dominate the airwaves in 2010.
