Casablancas To Go It Alone

Date: 15 July 2009
By Johnny Mayo

The uber talented Julian Casablancas recently revealed to our buddies at NME that he is going to follow in the footsteps of fellow Stroke Albert Hammond Jr and release a solo album towards the end of the year.

The album, titled ‘Phrazes For The Young’, was penned and recorded at several different US locations in order to fit around Julian’s hectic schedule. With The Strokes currently back in the studio putting the finishing touches to their as yet unnamed fourth studio album expectations are high just to see what the gravel voiced front man can deliver.

Casablancas certainly hasn’t been a recluse since the band dropped their last LP ‘First Impressions of Earth’ back in 2006. Since then he has collaborated with Hip Hop heavyweights Pharrell and Santigold on track ‘My Drive Thru’ and more recently Danger Mouse on his ‘Dark Side of the Soul’ album.

Casablancas also confirmed that he is due to play a “specials series” of tours around the US towards the end of the year before embarking on a solo tour to promote the new album. This makes him the fourth Stroke to release a record that is not connected with the band after Albert and Nikolai released their own solo projects and drummer Fab has his own side project called ‘Little Joy’.

You can check out a preview of ‘Phrazes For The Young’ below.
