Radiohead wrap up Reading

Date: 01 September 2009
By Johnny Mayo

Alternative legends Radiohead brought a close on last weekend’s Reading festival with one of their most enduring performances to date.

Their set on the night differed from the Leeds leg of the event by opening with the 1992 classic ‘Creep’, a song which is usually played towards the end of their sets if they even decide to play it at all.

Thom Yorke has previously stated his dislike for performing their breakthrough song as he did not want the band to become synonymous with just one record, but last night Radiohead went all out.

Their headlining set at the final festival of the season was clearly played with the intention of giving their fans some classic sing-a-longs as well as a heavy dose of their newest work from recent album ‘In Rainbows’.

Recently front man Yorke said making albums had "just become a real drag" for the band, suggesting they would concentrate on one-off releases in the future instead. These also include the band's release through their website of Harry Patch (In Memory Of), a song about the last British survivor of the World War I trenches who passed away earlier this year.

Radioheads set list in full was:
  • 'Creep'
  • 'The National Anthem'
  • '15 Step'
  • 'There There'
  • 'All I Need'
  • 'Nude'
  • 'The Gloaming'
