Depeche Mode Cancel Further Shows
Date: 18 May 2009
By Johnny Mayo
Depeche Mode front man Dave Gahan had to cancel further shows on their European tour this week after falling ill with gastroenteritis.
Back on May 12th a 20,000 strong crowd in Athens, Greece was informed that Dave was taken ill in his dressing room and couldn’t perform only minutes prior to show time. At the time the band released a statement wishing Dave a speedy recovery and stating that it shouldn’t affect further tour dates. The group were only 3 dates into their European tour when Dave took ill in Athens.
However new news coming from the band indicates that Dave has still not recovered and that they still have to cancel further shows until he regains his health. The following shows have also now been cancelled:
- Izvor Park - Bucharest, Romania - 16 May
- Vasil Levski Stadium - Sofia, Bulgaria - 18 May
- USCE Park, Belgrade - Serbia - 20 May
- Zagreb Arena - Croatia - 21 May
Depeche Mode recently released their 12th studio album Sounds of the Universe to coincide with their European tour.
They are one of the most successful and influential bands to survive the New Romantic scene and their unique sound has won them successive generations of loyal fans. Their influence on the contemporary music scene is so substantial that recently our very own TAG held a night in Barsonic, Zouk to celebrate the launch of their new album.
For proof of the legendary status that Depeche Mode now endure, you only have to view their performance of Enjoy The Silence at Germany’s Rock AM Ring back in 2006. Spine tingling stuff…
