Babyshambles have recently outlined their plans to release their third studio album in 2010. Speaking recently to NME Pete Doherty said that they had already penned around 18 songs which are in contention for their as yet unnamed third album.
Still in the planning stages, the band who are just as famous for their antics off stage than on it, are still yet to book studio time to record the endeavor and have not yet recruited a producer.
Doherty told NME that guitarist Mik Whitnall had been working on demos in London to try and set the tone for the new album. "Mik spent a year on eBay buying shitloads of equipment, he's written loads of amazing music which mostly just needs lyrics. So, one by one, they're getting turned into songs."
In other news, Pete recently had to apologise to German fans after singing the controversial first few lines to the German national anthem at a gig in Munich last week. Whilst performing ‘Hit The Road Jack’, Pete threw in the line “Deutschland, Deutschland ueber alles” which translates to “Germany, Germany above everything” – a line often connected with the Third Reich. The crowd largely booed the inclusion of the controversial line and Pete was removed from the stage a few tracks later.
Doherty’s spokesperson apologised for the outburst saying that Pete himself was unaware of the controversy. “Pete deeply apologizes if he has caused any offence,” the spokesperson said. “Pete himself is from Jewish descent and has fought against racism and fascism with numerous organizations. This is a subject he feels very strongly about.”
