Hujan Rocks Jakarta

Prost Club, Kemang – South Jakarta
By Eddie Mohammad

Hujan left a trail of good memories for the audience that night. I never even heard of the name until they came to Jakarta, seeing such convincing performance made me believe that they deserve to be one of the bigger names on the plate of Malaysian indie scene. Their single, “Bila Aku Sudah Tiada”, was already popular ever before their first live gig appearance. Everyone sang along, leaving no room for Noh, the vocalist, to be any louder throughout the song.

It was certainly an honour for the Aftermiles to open the good show. A set of seven songs, including the re-arranged Beatles cover “Across the Universe”, heated up the atmosphere. The crowd responded well to our single, “Kids on Riot”, as they had waited long enough to sing along.

Performance by Hujan erased the bad image of Malaysian pop bands that long ago conquered Indonesia. What once used to be recognised as “Musik Melayu” (Malaysian pop tunes) transformed into a great rock and roll ride, driven by five charismatic individuals that soon would change the face of Indonesian’s local pop taste.

Prost Beer House as the hosting club provided above the standard show equipment, the venue shortly became very popular within the scene. Every show that has been held at Prost has been great and Jakarta has delivered. Hujan’s appearance was a gain to the club’s popularity among many organizers.

Hujan, Prost, and the crowd were a brilliant combination to describe a remarkable indie gig!
